We took a trip down to Galveston, from Houston to explore offshore drilling. The Ocean Star Offshore Drilling and Rig Museum is locate right off the coast of Galveston in an old offshore oil rig platform. When approaching the museum, you can see actual offshore drilling rigs. Once we entered we watched a movie on the process of offshore drilling that illustrated the ways oil formed from ocean seismic rifts, creating pockets where decomposed carbon based matter turned into oil. What I was more intrigued by at the end of the film was the different structural ways offshore rigs had to be created in order to withstand the turbulence. The museum provided a chance to look at the different technologies and tools that have developed to make offshore rigging safer for the people involved, as well as giving us a glimpse into what the lifestyle would be like for a work aboard.
